WAX!!! REAL BEESWAX!!! As you know, beeswax has been used s¡nce the dawn of
t¡me. Unt¡l the end of the 20th century, ¡t was the mater¡al that best reproduced the
appearance of our "envelope" -- the skin. However, the exorbitant cost of making a
wax figure means that th¡s techn¡que is slowly disappearing, replaced by synthet¡c
mater¡als.
The LOURDES WAX MUSEUM is a part of this century, but its figures have already been admired by several generat¡ons!!! Although ¡t opened in 1974, most of the f¡gures come from the collection of the renowned Musée Grévin on Boulevard Montmartre in Paris. Almost the ent¡re "Life of Jesus" was born in the workshops of the Par¡s¡an museum at the end of the 19th century. All of these f¡gures were created for the Par¡s Universal Exhibition ¡n 1900. They are already over a century old and haven't aged at all! What a wonderful way to go back in time!
Currently, nearly 130 f¡gures lead you in the footsteps of Jesus and the l¡ttle shepherdess of Bartrès, Bernadette Soubirous. Along with Bernadette, Mother Teresa and His Holiness John-Paul Il are also there to welcome you.
Renovations are regularly carr¡ed out in our workshops in Lourdes. For greater damage that requires more sophist¡cated techniques, the figures are returned to the cap¡tal. The following v¡deo lets you discover the different stages of creation or repa¡r.
So have a look, but don't forget that ¡t's much better on the spot!
